About the Guru:

Dr. Praveena Vajja is the owner and director of Natyom Dance Academy. She is the Disciple of Guru Natyacharya Shri Avasarala Rukmaji Rao, who is a disciple of Padma Shri Adyar K. Lakshman in Bharatanatyam Kalakshetra style and Kuchipudi, Padma Bhushan Dr. Vempati Chinasatyam. She specializes in teaching Bharatanatyam and has extensive training in Kuchipudi and Kathak as well. She has trained, performed, and taught dance for over 40 years. Natyom Dance Academy’s core curriculum develops a foundation of Bharatanatyam for all students. The basis allows students to easily pick up other forms of Indian Classical and Modern Dance.
Students graduate at Natyom by taking certification exams in 4 levels through SAMPADA Siliconandhra and performing arangetrams.

About the Shishya:

Amulya Settyvari, an 11th-grade student at Ranchview High School, is a dedicated and accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer. She has been learning the art of Bharatanatyam since the age of 5 at Natyom Dance Academy under the guidance of Guru Smt. Praveena Vajja. Amulya has received numerous awards and certifications for her exceptional skills and dedication to the art.
In addition to her passion for dance, Amulya is a skilled tennis player who has won several District, Area, and Regional championships both in high school and individual tournaments. She’s an ambitious individual who has traveled to 20 countries across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Apart from her accomplishments in dance and sports, Amulya also has a passion for painting, drawing, cooking, watching movies and TV series, hanging out with her friends, and trying new things. She aspires to become a lawyer in the future. Amulya thanks everyone for their support as she achieves this significant milestone in her dance career.

Nattuvangam: Kumari. Chitra Balasubramaniam

Kumari. Chitra Balasubramaniam is a Bharatanatyam dancer and a senior disciple of Dr. Praveena Vajja. She was also trained under Praveena’s Guru, Late Natyacharya Sri Avasarala Rukmaji Rao, an exponent of the Kalakshetra Style. Chitra is currently training under his disciple Smt Suguna Rani. Kumari. Chitra teaches Bharatanatyam in the Natyom Dance Academy and has been learning nattuvangam from Kalaimamani K. Gopinath Rao. She is also learning Carnatic music and gives music & dance performances regularly in the DFW metroplex. She holds a doctorate from Texas A&M University and is currently working with American Airlines.

Vocalist: Smt. Akshaya Ramanathan

Smt. Akshaya Ramanathan hails from a musical family and she got her first training from her mother A. Jayanthi. Under her father’s guidance, she took music full-time.
She moved to Texas with her husband and pursuing music

She went on to learn from the Carnatica brothers and Smt. Padma Sandilyan. At present, she is getting advanced music training under the tutelage of Smt. Prarthana Sai Narasimhan (Disciple of Smt. Mani Krishna Swamy & Sri Chingleput Ranganathan), Sri. Chembai Srinivasan (Bharatanatyam Vocal).

She is a Master of Fine Arts in Carnatic Music from Annamalai University, Chidambaram. She also completed her Carnatic Vocal Grades from the same University.

Akshaya has worked as a Music Lecturer in Sri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women, Chennai, for 4 years where she has trained more than 500 Students. She holds 10 years of teaching experience in Carnatic Music for Students in India and abroad. She has rendered Carnatic vocal concerts and performed in The Music Academy and Sabhas for Bharatanatyam in India and the USA with guru’s blessings. To her credit, she has also done playback singing in Albums, Jingles, and Films (Tamil, Kannada) and worked with Eminent Carnatic Musicians and Music Directors.

Violin: Sri Uma Mahesh Iyer

Umamahesh is an ardent lover of music and has been learning violin since a young age under various gurus. He continues to pursue his passion for music and violin. Currently, Umamahesh is a senior management IT professional with a reputed IT company and resides in Plano, TX in the USA. He supports upcoming artists in the DFW area by accompanying them in vocal and dance performances for Arangretrams and music concerts.

Mridangam: Sri Aadith Narayan

Aadith Narayan has acquired a wealth of experience in performing concerts all over India and the USA for the past 13 years. He has accompanied eminent musicians like OS Arun, Aruna Sairam, and several others. He has been learning Mridangam for the past 21 years and is currently learning advanced Mridangam techniques from Vidwan Poongulam Subramaniam. Aadith Narayan has received praise for his aesthetic sense and style of accompaniment for which he has been awarded the “Scholarship Award for Outstanding Percussion Talent” from Bharat Kalachar and the “Best Percussionist” award from Amritha Vidyalaya. He arrived in the USA in 2019 and in 2021 graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a Masters in Business Analytics. He has been performing in concerts ever since around the USA and has established himself as a proficient accompaniment for both Dance and Carnatic music.
